Thirty-Three

A girl’s gotta get older each year but she doesn’t have to act it. I filled the summer day with as much youthful antics as these ol’ bones could endure. The morning began with jump startin’ the ticker by jetskiing at high speeds, bouncing on boat wakes at Chatfield Reservoir – which is quite a feat for me since deep water usually sends me into a brave faced panic. Next was lunch with mom and nephew to fulfill the annual tradition of a “spaghetti” meal (long noodles = long life). This year rather than the homemade version, we ventured to a vegetarian restaurant City O’ City and I actually had the special of the day – linguine with farm fresh veggies. We initially set out to find a congregation of Food Trucks in the park but we were off by a day (and late by 5 minutes). After afternoon farm chores, Tony and I headed to Lyons about an hour from Denver to explore the Lyons Classic Pinball arcade. Years ago, on a miscalculated whim, I drove up to Lyons to do the same only to find it closed. This time we made certain it was available and traded in our paper money for the magic coins that make the whirs, dings, and lights of the pinball machines gogogo. Classic Pinball had an amazing assortment of games new and old. One machine shot a ball as big as a skeeball, another utilized the vertical part of the machine, and the older games make you feel like a wizard with replays as low as 20,000 points. Back in Denver, we ended the day with an adult beverage – okay, maybe two adult beverages, can’t keep it entirely juvenile – and takeout “birthday” cake at our growing to be favorite wood walled bar Forest Room 5. 33 is off to an amusing start!
