Saturday was family day at the movies for the much anticipated release of “The Last Airbender” a film based on the Nickelodeon animated series “Avatar.” The T.V. show – involving elements of Chinese martial arts, ancient philosophies, Asian culture, and anime whimsy – has become a Legg family favorite through the obsession of the youngest in our crew (the boy pictured above). If you’ve read any reviews, you won’t be surprised that we left the theater, as most fans of the T.V. show, disappointed by the humorless and rushed feeling of M. Night Shyamalan’s attempt at this dense and humorous American anime – a tale deserving of epic storytelling treatment (and an increase in Asian actors).
