I just backed a solo music project by Josh Wise of The French Kicks. Have I hit the jackpot and begun signing checks to every artist I fancy?! Nope, I just discovered this nifty fundraising website, www.kickstarter.com, that focuses the community on funding creative projects. An artist sets a monetary goal to help realize a project and from there it’s an all or nothing timed event. If they meet that goal in pledges of varying levels from friends, fans, or strangers then the project receives the money (and the pledgers receive a reward at each level of backing). A unique service that engages your audience, creates demand for your work and makes those pledging feel like the-next-big-thing’s benefactor en masse! Brilliant.
