On my oh-too-short visits to distract, ahem, help Tony on the house construction in W.V., we like to plan “project” oriented tasks to maximize my efforts.  If we stick to one small goal, we can usually reach it in the 2 weeks I’m there to lend the extra hand(s).  On this particular visit in September, we stained the house exterior, which went faster than expected, and when that was complete we decided to install the front door.  Mind you, Tony and Travis had already placed a “dummy” door on the the house to keep the elements out but on a trip to a Restore in Denver we found a used door in better shape to replace the stand in.

I’ve been toying around with some ideas for “Save the Date” wedding videos for the biz and I was thinking that the videos I enjoy the most (in general) involve creating one thing – seeing something built from start to finish, very story driven.  And I wanted to create a “Save the Date” video around that concept.  I thought maybe installing a door could be a nice way to symbolize “starting a home together” blahblahblah plus I just wanted to shoot action in slow motion and slowing down two people staining a house is as boring as, well, watching stain dry.  So an “installing a door” feature won out.  Turns out, the action read more like a solitary endeavor than a two person gig so it drained some of the romance out of it for me.  So, I nixed the “Save the Date” element and decided it makes a pretty cool “update on construction” video.  The slow motion makes it uber dramatic, which I kinda love – hey, building a house is hard work and it deserves moments of studied reflection.  Won’t you come in…

Special thanks to Tony’s dad Larry for helping us with the setting and carving!
