My sister recently turned me on to the concept of a fairy garden – miniature plots of small plants and hand crafted shelters – the green thumb’s dollhouse. Impossibly shaped succulents, twig-fashioned furniture, the ambitious water feature are meticulously arranged at the foot of a tree or in a basin with the hopes of luring a itty magical creature to linger and spill summa dat sought after pixie dust. I have some residual intrigue left over from my younger years for the mischievous winged lil’ ladies, at least enough to fill a small garden box. I set out by first gathering natural resources at Denver Botanic Gardens’ Cactus and Succulent Show (great timing!) and once home scavenged scrap wood to make a planter. A couple hours of building, arranging, and scouring the yard for a stick thick enough to make a wooden seat cushion for a wire parlor chair and we had ourselves a fairy garden to make any grandma jealous. Below is our process in photo montage.
