Unexpectedly, and much to our nephew’s delight, my sister chose the theme-park ambience and cafeteria style service of Casa Bonita as her birthday meal with the family. This larger than expected restaurant/funhouse is a must kitsch experience for anyone that calls Denver home. The food is sub-par (I wouldn’t dare classify it as mexican) but nothing beats watching a diver plummet 30 feet whilst dining on unlimited sopapillas. Once you maneuver through Black Bart’s cave and move on to the arcade of classic video games and skeeball, you forget the so-so meal and begin to realize that Casa Bonita isn’t a dining establishment but your ticket to the wholesome fun of an 80s childhood.
Picked up this pearl of wisdom for one token (the equivalent of 25 cents) from one of those fortune teller animatronic booths a la “Big”. I swear the whole time the “lady” with the crystal ball was looking above me. Oh, and we were locked away for a spell…
