My scribbles about Denver’s Confluence Park made the semi-finals in a writing contest on the travel website Trazzler.com. A victory in this round sends me and my calloused pen-steering fingers to New York City with a $10,000 two-week writer-in-residence contract to scrawl 30 trips covering the five boroughs! In order to be considered for this grand-tacular prize, I’m challenged to corroborate my story with a large audience by being among the Top 10 wishlisted trips in the competition by Sept. 14th.
I’ve blasted everyone I know through email/social networking sites only to watch as the top competitor swiftly hits a 300+ stride as I saunter at 50 some. Intrigued, I nosed around and discovered that the sure-shot is running a campaign that would give half of her winnings to charity:water to build clean water wells in third world countries. My feeble pleas on F-book seem ridicu-silly and I’ve now chosen to champion the savvy golden heart in the lead. After all, my fortunate clean-water-gulping face would shamelessly use the prize money to shake the student loan collectors and spend Christmas in Buenos Aires. Damn my selfish needs…always losing contests…
