How to Spell Chicken

I’ve yet to give a proper introduction to our backyard chickens. So as not be playing favorites with the goats… Below is a video of the winter day in February when we picked up eight Rhode Island Red pullets from a farm out in Parker, Colorado and ushered them into their new home. The brood has been an outstanding set of fertile myrtles (we haven’t named ’em, but I’m thinking a collective christening of “Myrtle” will suffice). At this point, each hen consistently produces one (unfertilized) egg a day. And with no rooster to boss them around; two lady goats a few feet away, and Delaware relegated to the front yard – we’re having ourselves a girls only affair (save that one handsome farmer who actually tends to the ladies while I point a camera at everything). Girl power!
